We are no longer in a zero-sum world

Scarcity is an outdated belief perpetuated by corporations to drive up prices. The world is no longer a zero-sum game — we can all win.

People being mad because they didn't get a business deal only further highlights the failures of our current economic system and our understanding: We act as if the world is a zero-sum game (when others win, we lose), but that's not the case. We are in a positive-sum world—we can all win.

The reality is that scarcity is an outdated belief not based on reality. Today, corporations continue to use the illusion of scarcity to drive up prices. Take diamonds, for example. Diamonds are not actually particularly scarce and companies mine a great deal of them every year. Their value is driven up by companies like Da Beers withholding them, reducing their availability on the market. This is known as artificial or manufactured scarcity.

The world—and really, our entire solar system—when properly and sustainably managed has virtually unlimited resources for us. It's time to stop thinking that it's normal for some people to succeed and be happy and other people to fail and suffer.
