The Netflix show “Squid Game” is often labeled as “dystopian”, but remember that other than the actual game itself, the rest is just a depiction of the world today under neoliberal capitalism.

The Netflix show “Squid Game” is often labeled as “dystopian”, but remember that other than the actual game itself, the rest is just a depiction of the world today: a world of wage slavery, enormous debt, extreme inequality, and enormous suffering that is all a native feature of our global economic mode (“free market” capitalism). It’s too bad it only passively hints at this (I’m only on the first episode so far)... is it too much to hope they explore the roots of all these problems later on? 😅😆
